How should people vote?

No account needed. Voters only need a first name. You can close voting, remove names or change the link anytime.

  1. Add your names

Type them in or pull your saved favorites from the name generator. Add your last name to see the full name.

  2. Send the link

Share it in the family group chat. Voters give each name a thumbs up or down, or rank them, and can leave a comment.

  3. Watch it live

Only you see the results: tallies, the top pick, who voted and what they said. Close voting whenever you like.

Getting honest opinions without the drama

Asking for opinions on baby names can get loud. A shortlist keeps it simple: you choose which names are in the running, and everyone votes on those names only. Nobody can add their own favorite, and you can drop a name at any time.

Thumbs up or down works well for long lists and quick reactions. Ranking is better for a final three to five names because it shows how strongly people feel. We score rankings with a Borda count: on a list of five names, first place earns five points and last place earns one.

Voters see each name's meaning and origin from our baby name database, so the vote isn't only about how it sounds. Once you have a winner, tap This is the one to put it on your Baby Kit announcements.

Questions

Do voters need an account?

No. Voters type a first name (and an optional nickname like “Grandma”). Each browser gets one vote set, which they can change by opening the link again.

Can voters see the results?

No. Only you see the tallies, so early votes don't sway anyone else. You can share the top pick yourself once voting closes.

What if the link gets shared too widely?

Make a new link from the results panel. The old link stops working right away, and the votes you already have are kept.

Do I need to sign in?

No. Your shortlist is saved to this browser. Signing in (free, no password) keeps it on all your devices and lists it under My names.

Will my shortlist show up on Google?

No. Shortlist pages are private links and are marked noindex, so search engines don't list them.
